Top Station 37km from Munnar on the Kerala and Tamil Nadu border, has great views of the Western Ghats. Regular buses go to Top Station (1 hr) from Munnar. The area is known for the Neelakurunji plant, which flowers only once every twelve years. Next flowering year is 2018. Its elevation of 1,700 metres (5,577 ft) is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road and the highest roadway elevation in South India Top Station offers a panoramic view of the majestic Western Ghats The Kundala Valley Railway ended here. Top Station derived its name from its location on the Kundala Valley 24 inch gauge railway This station also housed the Munnar-Top Station Ropeway. Trains, and later ropeways worked from Munnar to Top station and from Top Station down hill to Bodinayikkanur, the transport was by another ropeway... The Kurinjimala Sanctuary is nearby. Tea Top Station is the western entrance to the planned Palani Hills National Park. |
